Time sure flies when you’re having fun! I wanted to start out this month’s message by sending a big THANKS to everyone who attended and helped out with our Awards & Appreciation Banquet (aka “Casino Night”). The event was a huge success and everyone who attended had a great time. And I also want to congratulate NALS member Thelma Gonzales, PLS, for winning the NTSA 2010 Award of Excellence alongside Boss of the Year Award winner, Barry Corey, Esq., of DeConcini, McDonald, Yetwin & Lacy. We were able to give out $1,000 in scholarships this year much thanks to the success of last year’s golf tournament and fundraiser.
A number of our members just returned from a wonderful NALS of Arizona Spring Conference in beautiful Prescott. NALS of Yavapai County did a great job putting together a superior list of educational
presenters and, as usual, NALS attracts great and generous vendors and prize donors who gave away a number of fabulous prizes. My best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to Thelma Gonzales, who took a spill while at the conference and fractured her foot. But she sure picked a pretty color for her cast to “enjoy” as she mends. All my love, T…. ♥
Next up this month is NTSA’s monthly CLE After Hours presentation on May 19th. Not only are we meeting at a new venue (which we’re really excited about), but we’re also gonna start off the year with a great topic presented by our own Melissa Fuca, CLA, and a fabulous cost-saving offer from NTSA supporter and bankers at National Bank of Arizona. Melissa will talk to us about how to deal with Personalities in the Law Office (who hasn’t had personality troubles with a co-worker or boss), and representatives from National Bank of Arizona will also be presenting InGroup Banking, a premier checking account that has perks only available through membership with NTSA. Just to mention a few of the benefits available with an InGroup banking account, and hopefully pique your interest: Did you know you can use any bank’s ATM without paying fees? And for those who still write checks, with NBA, you never have to pay for checks again. And there’s more … so, if you have any questions or can’t make it to our meeting this month, please feel free to call Yvonne Vranes, NBA’s InGroup Banking Manager, at 602-541-4235.
And then the games really begin! Your 2011-12 officers have been installed and will be meeting on May 21st as the official “Executive Committee” to go over the association’s Bylaws and Standing Rules and discussion how we do business. Be on the lookout for requests for comment in our upcoming LegaLetters and in the eNews, since any changes that we make are changes that you want made … so don’t be shy when it comes time to voice your opinion about NTSA programs and offerings.
And as if that isn’t fun enough, we have another opportunity for golfing fun on June 10th at our second Charity Golf Tournament, this time to benefit Therapeutic Riding of Tucson’s Heroes on Horses program (see page 8). If you missed our meeting where TROT presented its program to us, just visit our website and you can view the video and pass the word on about our tournament/fundraiser.
Of course, we still need golfers and volunteers and prize donations, so if you’re interested in participating, feel free to contact me or Melissa Fuca for more info.
AND FINALLY, I would be remiss to not also mention and remind you all that we have more opportunities for CLE than you can shake a stick at. There’s still time to register for the NALS Region 8 Education Conference in Sonoma Valley wine country (Rohnert Park CA) (see page 12) and the State Bar of Arizona is still looking for volunteers to help out with their annual convention being held right here at the La Paloma resort in Tucson (see page 10). Volunteers can exchange their time volunteering for “free” CLE at one of their many educational sessions. And that’s just close by. There’s also the NALS 60th Annual Education Conference & National Forum being held October 13-16, 2011 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a number of convenient online CLE webinars in the NALS Online Learning Center. There’s no excuse why you can’t take advantage of all the fun. Check out NALS.org, NALSregion8.org or our website, NALSofTucson.org, for more info about what’s happening in NALS.
So, I hope you’ll make it out to our meeting on May 19th, and I truly hope to see all my NALS pals soon at a local, state, regional or national event.
Audrey M. Saxton, PLS
President, NALS of Tucson & So. AZ
