Let me apologize right away for the melancholy tone of this message; however, yesterday I received news that our member, Thelma Gonzales, lost her mom. In addition, in early November, my own family received news that my father-in-law has stage IV pancreatic cancer. He was moved to hospice on Thanksgiving Day. Which now brings me to the theme of this month’s message.
True friends (not faux friends) and family are truly a gift to be enjoyed and cherished every single day. I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Do not let a day go by that you don’t tell the people you care about that you do, in fact, care about them, you love them, you cherish them. Time is so very short! And even when our loved ones live into their 70s and 80s and they have what we consider to be a full life, sometimes you cannot help but stop and think how much more we could have learned from them, how many times we left their presence without telling them that we loved them or even the simple act of giving them a genuine hug. Please do not let another day go by without hugging someone you love, without telling them you care.
Final plans are underway for this year’s holiday party at President-Elect Audrey Saxton’s home. I hope you all can attend. Remember, this is a community service event and we are asking that food donations be made which will be donated to the Community Food Bank. And I’m sure Audrey has a lot more in store for the evening. Don’t forget, “Participation Pays!”
And then we round the corner of the New Year with our January CLE After Hours along with final preparations for the NALS of Arizona Winter Conference which will be held in Tucson at the Desert Diamond Casino and Resort on Old Nogales Highway in February. If you have not made your reservations, you need to do so. The Desert Diamond has a beautiful hotel, the rooms are gorgeous, and quite frankly, while I live literally 15 minutes from the hotel, I plan on staying there a couple days and making it a little mini vacation!
In the meantime, everyone please have a safe and merry holiday!
